Lightweight Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, a total flunky for Chuck Schumer and someone who would come to my office “begging” for campaign contributions not so long ago (and would do anything for them), is now in the ring fighting against Trump. Very disloyal to Bill & Crooked-USED!

As is his nature, Mr. Trump is lashing out – most recently at Democratic Senator Kirsten Gillibrand who called on him to resign. The President’s tweet said the Senator “would do anything for” campaign donations. This is disgusting and sexist rhetoric. It is so far below the standards of human decency that no civil person should condone it, let alone normalize it…. I think that what we are seeing here is fear, a deep fear of a world closing in. After all fear is what an animal in a cage really is feeling. The opposition to President Trump is emboldened. It is clear that Democrats who are positioning themselves for a run at the Oval Office in 2020 – like Senator Gillibrand – feel that their path lies through calling out Mr. Trump, especially on his sexual harassment allegations…. I believe in the decency of the vast majority of the American people. I believe that most know this is not normal, not normal at all. I believe that most know we have been and should be better than this.
Whether or not you see sexism or sexual harassment in the President’s Twitter assault on Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), there can be no doubt as to its embarrassing immaturity and childishness. GOP spokesman Steve Schmidt called it “an assault on the dignity of the office of the President.” Schmidt, a Republican I’ve always respect for his class and honesty, is being far too kind.
It was yet another day in which Donald Trump demonstrates he lives in a barrel with no bottom. Or, as you might know it, Tuesday.
Republicans on Capitol Hill are engaging in all manner of contortions to avoid having to comment on the President’s tweet. Some have refused to look at it in order that they may avoid being pressed for a reaction. Others are attempting to deflect the conversation in directions leading away from an honest response. It’s quite pathetic, in that the President, as the head of the GOP, gets a free pass from a party which refuses to do the right and decent thing. Grown men and women are figuratively plugging their ears with their fingers and screaming “LALALALALALA!!!” to keep from having to speak on the reality that Donald Trump is wholly unfit to be President.’
That’s right; the Party of Personal Responsibility © is refusing to accept responsibility or acknowledge their complicity in ANY of this. Hypocrisy is the gift that keeps on giving, y’all….
When your default reaction to those who dare to disagree with you and have the temerity to call you out for your loutish behavior, you have nothing of value to offer. In Trump’s case, he’s actively dismantling American governance from the inside. If his administration were to disappear today, it would take months- quite possibly years- to undo the damage already done. It’s a virtual certainty that American governance will never be the same in my lifetime.
How an American President could descend to the depths Donald Trump has defies rational understanding. I’ve seen junior high school bullies who’ve displayed more maturity. How bad have things become? Bad enough that USA Today‘s editorial board torched Trump for his mean-spirited immaturity and unfitness for the office he holds.
With his latest tweet, clearly implying that a United States senator would trade sexual favors for campaign cash, President Trump has shown he is not fit for office. Rock bottom is no impediment for a president who can always find room for a new low….
[A]s is the case with all of Trump’s digital provocations, the president’s words were deliberate. He pours the gasoline of sexist language and lights the match gleefully knowing how it will burst into flame in a country reeling from the #MeToo moment.
A president who would all but call Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand a whore is not fit to clean the toilets in the Barack Obama Presidential Library or to shine the shoes of George W. Bush.
Ouch…and yet it’s spot on. I highly recommend reading the editorial. It’s brutally honest, pulls no punches, and it calls out the President for the lout he is. How in the world could 63 million Americans be so intellectually and morally bereft?
In my lifetime, the Presidency (if not always the person filling the role) has been imbued with dignity and gravitas. It’s been something to aspire to- being the most powerful man in the free world meant something. No longer; the spell of American Exceptionalism (never a thing except in the imagination of Conservatives) has been broken. Donald Trump has shamed America on the international stage and turned the Presidency into a mockery. He’s an embarrassment- to his country, the office he holds and the traditions it represents, his family, and himself. Worse, he lacks the self-awareness to recognize and admit to reality. In his own mind, he’s brilliant. The only reason he’s ever come up short is that other people can be unreliable and let him down. His tweets in the wake of Judge Roy Moore’s defeat in Alabama betray a man who demands all the credit but refuses to shoulder any responsibility and blame.
Donald Trump, the man, on the other hand, is uniquely awful. His sickening behavior is corrosive to the enterprise of a shared governance based on common values and the consent of the governed….
If recent history is any guide, the unique awfulness of the Trump era in U.S. politics is only going to get worse. Trump’s utter lack of morality, ethics and simple humanity has been underscored during his 11 months in office.
It’s no stretch to believe Trump to be the most miserable ambulatory meat sack to ever soil the Oval Office with his odiousness, immaturity, and yes, his “unique awfulness.” He’s proven himself to be devoid of compassion, dignity, and integrity. He lies as he breathes, by one estimate on average almost SIX times a day. The depth and breadth of his narcissism and paranoia are stunning. He makes Richard Nixon seem the poster boy for sanity. Yes, Virginia, this unstable narcissist is the leader of the free world.
There’s simply no way to overstate his utter awfulness, ineptitude, incompetence, and unfitness to have the rare honor and privilege of being President of the United States. We may not be able to recover from four (or, Heaven forbid, eight) years of his unique toxic admixture of corruption and ineptitude.
Nice work, America.
