Republican Senator James Inhofe of Oklahoma — a climate change denier who once proclaimed, “God’s still up there. The arrogance of people to think that we, human beings, would be able to change what He is doing in the climate is to me outrageous.” — told CNN’s “New Day” on Thursday that Trump’s plan will stop the EPA from “brainwashing” children. “We’re gonna take all this stuff that comes out of the EPA, that’s brainwashing our kids, that’s propaganda, things that aren’t true, allegations,” Inhofe said.
Sen. James Inhofe (R-OK) isn’t stupid. If memory serves, he’s a doctor. Having an MD behind one’s can normally be taken to indicate one has at least a passing familiarity with science.
Unless one’s practice involves the liberal use of witch doctors and leeches….
That a sitting US Senator could put forth such a ridiculous, unfounded assertion defies rational understanding…but in Sen. Inhofe’s case isn’t particularly surprising. I’m not certain which part of the EPA’s scientific analysis he takes offense over, but the idea that EPA is “brainwashing” children with “propaganda, things that aren’t true, allegations” is absurd. Unless, of course, you define “brainwashing” as “not reliably and consistently teaching Conservative doctrine as Gospel.”
In the case of the senator from
Jesusland Oklahoma, it doesn’t matter what he thinks of the science EPA uses. Science doesn’t give a tinker’s damn what Sen. Inhofe thinks. The idea that Republicans are somehow going to bring EPA into line is as insulting as it is ridiculous.
You’d think you could safely assume someone who’s completed medical school and earned an MD would be smart enough to understand that scientific truth isn’t fungible. Science isn’t something that can be massaged and molded in order to support the dominant narrative, nor is it going to conform to the tenets of a specific ideology. Science simply is. Hard data isn’t something which can be made to conform to a narrow political/religious/ideological agenda.
It would appear the inmates really ARE running the asylum.
Nice work, America.
